A new partnership between North Carolina State University and the V Foundation for Cancer Research will introduce young scientists to cancer therapeutic research, encouraging them to pursue careers in combating the disease. Fueled by a $1 million award from the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the Jimmy V-NC State Cancer Therapeutics Training Program will get students – high schoolers, undergraduates and graduate students – out of the classroom and into different NC State research labs involved in cancer therapeutics. A $2 million gift from David Murdock, owner of Dole Food Co., will help staff the North Carolina Research Campus being developed at Kannapolis with North Carolina State University faculty members who will work to develop more nutritious fruits and vegetables. The gift will be matched with $1 million from the North Carolina Distinguished Professors Endowment Trust Fund. The $3 million total will be used to create endowments that will fund three David H. NC State is offering a new agricultural program...a new bachelor's degree program designed to meet a growing need for professionals with a broad range of knowledge and experience in agricultural sciences. Barry Croom, associate professor of Agricultural and Extension Education in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State, said the first students are expected to enroll in the new Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences program in fall 2007. Norris Tolson (Crop Science 1962) was selected President and CEO of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center by its board of directors, effective July 2. Tolson, who has served as secretary of three state cabinet departments, had been the Biotechnology Center's interim leader since January...click here for more
