Dr. Earl Wernsman
Earl A. Wernsman Seminar Endowment
The annual Earl A. Wernsman Seminar is organized by the Crop Science Graduate Student Association (CSGSA) with the purpose of recognizing and learning from scientists who have made significant contributions in their fields of research. The seminar series has included highly respected researchers and scholars in the fields of weed science, global agricultural production, plant breeding, plant physiology, and agroecology.
The CSGSA has taken the initiative to establish an endowment and launch a fundraising drive to underwrite the Earl A. Wernsman Seminar. Whe fully funded, interest from the endowment will be used to cover expenses associated with the annual seminar, including travel expenses, meals, and accommodations for invited speakers and a post-seminar reception. In past years the annual cost of the seminar has been about $1,500. With 4% annual yield available from the endowment, we need a minimum of $37,500 in the endowment to make the Earl A. Wernsman Seminar self sufficient. Successful fundraising events have raised nearly $17,000 toward the endowment and also supported the lecture during the last two years. While this is a noteworthy accomplishment, attributed to generous contributions of alumni and friends, it is shy of our ultimate goal.
