RICHARD SHRAKE RIDING
AND TRAINING SYMPOSIUM
North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Horse Council will sponsor a
special Richard Shrake Riding and Training Symposium on Dec. 6-7, 1997 at the Governor James
B. Hunt Horse Complex in Raleigh, North Carolina.
World-renowned horse trainer and clinician Richard Shrake from Oregon will
demonstrate the use of resistance-free training techniques when training unbroke horses and to
accomplish perfect lead changes in the finished horse.
Spectators will have an opportunity to view and hear all training and demonstration
sessions and interact with Richard Shrake throughout the two-day clinic.

HORSE BREEDING MANAGEMENT SHORT COURSE
The Animal Science Department of North Carolina State University and the North
Carolina Horse Council are presenting two Horse Breeding Management Short courses offered in
two sessions on Dec. 11-13, 1997 and Jan. 22-24, 1998 at the NCSU Equine Educational Unit in
Raleigh, North Carolina. These short courses are sponsored by Hoechst Roussel Agri-Vet
Company.
The breeding short course provides horse breeders with hands-on experience in a
variety of fundamental reproductive techniques. The comprehensive three-day course will offer
the most recent technology in breeding management, including: artificial insemination, semen
collection, evaluation and handling techniques; hormonal manipulation of the estrous cycle;
broodmare nutrition; ultrasound technology and additional topics. Participants will receive 24
hours of hands-on training, a breeding manual and 2-4 continuing education units through N.C.
State.

RON MCLOUGHLIN HORSE TRAINING
AND RIDING CLINIC
North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Horse Council will sponsor a
Ron McLoughlin Horse Training and Riding Clinic and Symposium on Dec. 12-14, 1997 at the
Western North Carolina Agricultural Facility in Fletcher, North Carolina.
From his ranch in Sonita, Arizona Ron McLoughlin has conducted more than 577
clinics throughout the United States during the past 25 years. He specializes in working with both
horse and rider to improve horsemanship skills, training techniques, and horse performance. The
three-day clinic will feature demonstrations on teaching lateral movements and flexion, correct
diagonals, flying lead changes, balanced stops, and improving rider position.
Spectators and riders will have an opportunity to view and hear all demonstration and
clinic sessions and interact with Ron McLoughlin throughout the clinic.

TRANSPORTED COOLED AND FROZEN
STALLION SEMEN SHORT COURSE
The Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University and the North
Carolina Horse Council are presenting two Transported Cooled and Frozen Stallion Semen short
courses Dec. 14, 1997 and Jan. 25, 1998 at the NCSU Equine Educational Unit in Raleigh, NC.
The courses, which are sponsored by Hoechst Roussel Agri-Vet Company, will help horse
breeders advance their knowledge and skills about shipping cooled and frozen stallion semen.
Topics include semen preservation techniques, proper use and selection of extenders,
proper use of the Equitainer, practical applications of frozen semen, contracts and shipping
guidelines, planned breeding strategies, handling of cooled and frozen semen for insemination and
evaluation, and additional topics. Wet labs and demonstrations will be conducted. Participants will
receive eight hours of training, a course manual, and .5 Continuing Education Units through N.C.
State.
