Blue Mold: Controlling A Devastating Disease, NCSU, Shoemaker, 1997, 12 minutes.
Since the mid-1990's, a different, more resistant strain of blue mold has infected burley tobacco in North Carolina. This video looks at that problem, as well as new solutions being developed to combat the disease. In this videotape, Dick Bir, Extension Horticulture Specialist at the Mountain Horticultural Research Station in Fletcher, demonstrates the techniques of budding. Topics discussed include proper tools, how to gather bud wood, T-budding pear trees, T-budding dogwood and clip-budding.

Common Insect Pests Of The Landscape, NCSU, Entomology, Steve Bambara, 1999, 10 minutes.
This video shows the home gardener how to identify and treat the ten most common insect pests in the home landscape. The following insects are discussed: Fire Ants, Spruce Spider Mites, Aphids, Fall Webworm, the Japanese Beetle, the Boxwood Leafminer, Tea Scale, the Azalea Lace Bug, Bagworms and the Southern Red Mite. Composting of Poultry Mortality, NCSU, Poultry Science, Mike Wineland/Tom Carter, 1994, 20 minutes.
Composting of poultry mortality is one of the newer methods for disposing of carcasses. This method offers an option to poultry producers who find one of the other approved methods is not practical because of economic or environmental concerns.

Controlling Insect Pests In Farm Stored Grain, NCSU, Entomology, Hillman/Bambara, 1996, 15 minutes.
Each year, 5-10% of the grain crop is lost to insects after harvest. Most of this loss could be prevented. This video details ways to minimize or eliminate insect damage to stored grain.

Construction of a 2000 sq. ft. home can create 4 tons of debris, much of which can be recycled. This video gives workers tips for preventing this debris, as well as for reusing and recycling scrap materials.

Planting and Care of Roses, 22 minutes.
Ted Caudle, Mecklenburg Co. Extension Horticulturist, talks about the proper way to plant roses, how to prune and how to control rose pests. This video was designed for use in Piedmont North Carolina but the basic principles apply wherever roses are grown.

Planting Annuals, 19 minutes.
Ted Caudle, Mecklenburg Co. Extension Horticulturist, says homeowners get a lot of pleasure from planting annuals in their landscape. He shows a large number of beautiful examples and talks about using them year round in the landscape. He discusses soil preparation, fertilization, the selection of annuals for shady areas, for sunny areas and for use in hanging baskets and other containers.

Selecting, Planting and Care of Azaleas and Rhododendrons, 17 minutes.
Ted Caudle, Mecklenburg Co. Extension Horticulturist, gives tips on how to select, plant and care for azaleas and rhododendron. At a nursery, he shows a large number of different plants but cautions homeowners to select only those varieties adaptable to their area. Caudle also demonstrates how to prepare soil for planting and watering the new plants.

Useful Garden Gadgets, 20 minutes.
Ted Caudle, Mecklenburg Co. Extension Horticulturist, shows a number of useful garden gadgets which make the home gardener's job a little easier and eliminates guesswork. He also talks about water hose gadgets and other useful garden tools such as pruners and spray equipment.

Shrimping is the most profitable fishing venture on the southeast coast. But when the nets are pulled in, along with the shrimp comes an unwanted mixture of sea creatures called by-catch. This video shows the development and testing of three new shrimp nets, all designed to reduce by-catch.

This video examines various snakes found in the southeastern United States, including all four poisonous ones. Their attributes, identifying characteristics and control are discussed.

Solutions For North Carolina's Environmental Challenges, NCSU, 1997, 13 minutes.
This video looks at the many environmental challenges the state faces today, and the viable solutions being worked on by NCSU and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to meet those challenges.

Successful Swine Production: Management Is The Key, NCSU, Animal Science, Morgan Morrow, 1995, 17 minutes.
If swine production is successful, it is because of correct management practices. This video details these seven procedures: trimming teeth, cutting cords, giving iron, cutting tails, castration, ear notching, and taping splayed legs.

Understanding Children's Behavior Through Observation, NCSU, Family & Consumer Science, Karen DeBord, 1997, 32 minutes.
Observation can be used to provide additional information about a child's learning style and behavior. This video would be useful for teachers, day care workers , and other child care providers. It shows how stepping back and carefully looking at a child's complex interactions with his environment and peers can furnish clues to plan for that child's learning, and the adult's role in that learning.
