![]() Charles and Edith Sullivan have established a fisheries and wildlife sciences merit scholarship with a gift of 6,000 shares of Wendy’s restaurant stock. Charles Sullivan, who graduated with a B.S. degree in Wildlife Conservation and Management in 1944, said the $100,000 charitable annuity is a tangible way to give something back to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. “It is the right thing to do,” he said. Sullivan, a third-generation salesman, noted that although his career shifted away from one in wildlife management, “I would not have enjoyed such a good life if it wasn’t for N.C. State and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.” Dr. Thomas Quay, Zoology professor emeritus; Jim Graham, N.C. Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services; and several College administrators joined the Sullivans for the gift announcement in August. Dr. Richard Noble, coordinator of the fisheries and wildlife sciences program, said that he is delighted by the gift because of its focus on fisheries and wildlife students. “We have few scholarships dedicated to fisheries and wildlife students,” said Noble. “But we have many excellent students who deserve scholarships. This endowment will allow recipients to reduce outside employment, thereby enabling them to spend more time on academic endeavors and professional activities.” —Andy Fisher |
