program honors two
Shelly R. Strickland, a
junior majoring in biological and biomedical engineering, has been named
a recipient of the Morris K. Udall Scholarship.
Strickland of Maxton was one of three North Carolina residents and 80
students nationally to receive the award. Another student of the College
of Agriculture and Life Sciences Kirsten Collings from Cullowhee,
a senior majoring in resources and ecosystem assessment was named
an Honorable Mention Scholarship recipient. Both honorees receive cash
awards. Morris K. Udall Scholarships
are awarded to undergraduates pursuing careers related to the environment,
as well as to Native American and Alaska native students who intend
to pursue careers in health care and tribal public policy. The Udall
program, which is committed to educating Americans to preserve and protect
their national heritage, has awarded scholarships annually since 1992. Each scholar receives up
to $5,000, or the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board. Terri
