College alumni are
new department heads
in Animal Science,
Horticultural Science

Dr. Roger L. McCraw is the new head of the Department of Animal Science, and Dr. Julia L. Kornegay is now head of the Department of Horticultural Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Both are alumni of the College.

McCraw, who had served as interim head of Animal Science since July 2001, earned his master’s degree and his doctorate in animal genetics from N.C. State. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in dairy science and agricultural education and a master’s in vocational education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Kornegay holds two N.C. State degrees, a bachelor’s in floriculture and master’s in plant pathology, as well as a doctorate in plant breeding and biometry from Cornell University. She comes to the university from her position as director of the Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami, Fla. Prior to her tenure there, she was a visiting scientist in the College’s Department of Crop Science.
