Swartzel named Fellow
of American Society
of Agricultural Engineers

Dr. Kenneth R. Swartzel, William Neal Reynolds distinguished professor and head of the Department of Food Science at North Carolina State University, has been named a Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. He was inducted during ASAE’s recent annual international meeting in Las Vegas.

Swartzel is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to food engineering in the area of kinetic theory and thermal processing of foods. During the past year, he directed the North Carolina Technology Development Initiative through the UNC Office of the President, and currently serves as site director of the National Science Foundation Center for Advance Processing and Packing Studies at N.C. State, in addition to his duties as head of the Department of Food Science.

A renowned scientist, engineer, and educator, Swartzel has won international acclaim with the integration of his research, development and commercialization of food engineering.

He received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees from N.C. State.
