Davenport wins NAADA Volunteer Service Award

Lawrence Davenport of Pactolus, president of the agribusiness J.P. Davenport and Son Inc., has received the Volunteer Service Award from the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association. Davenport received the award in June from NAADA President Paul Willis during ceremonies held in Des Moines, Iowa.

Davenport, a 1965 alumnus of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with a bachelor's degree in agronomy, is former chair and current board member of Golden LEAF and a member of the N.C. State University Board of Trustees. He has served as president of the N.C. Crop Improvement Association and the N.C. Foundation Seed Producers, as well as director of the N.C. Tobacco Growers Association and member of the U.S. Advisory Commission for Tobacco Inspection.

Also present at the awards ceremony was Dr. Johnny Wynne, dean of the College, who said of Davenport, "He has worked tirelessly to promote prosperity for his home country, the region in which he lives, North Carolina State University and, indeed, the state of North Carolina."
