Liles inducted into International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame
Dr. Richard Liles, emeritus professor of agricultural and extension education in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at N.C. State University, is among seven educators recently inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame. Liles, also an N.C. State alumnus, was honored Sept. 8 in a special induction ceremony in the Hall’s institutional home at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.

Educational scholars and practitioners whose contributions provide the foundation for continuing education and adult learning are inducted into the Hall of Fame, a significant recognition in the adult and continuing education field.
Liles retired in 2006 from N.C. State, where he had served as director of the Personal Organizational Development System (PODS) for the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. During his N.C. State career, Liles served as a science teacher, agricultural extension agent, 4-H and youth development specialist, district program leader, state leader of training for Extension, associate department head and interim department head.
His contributions to the body of knowledge and practice of non-formal adult education were derived from his experience in all these roles.
His position with PODS enabled him to work with diverse groups in the United States, Malaysia, South Africa, Australia and Canada — including universities, government agencies and voluntary associations, as well as business and industry.
Liles holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a doctorate in adult education from N.C. State, as well as a master’s degree in biology from UNC-Chapel Hill.
