Philip Morris International contributes to CALS research, teaching and extension

On July 14, David Conner of Philip Morris International presented a check from the company for $203,000 to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Phillip Morris’ annual donations to the College fund scholarships and fellowships and tobacco research and outreach, as well as the Agricultural Leadership Program, which trains new generations of agriculture leaders to serve at the local, national and international levels.

“We are extremely gratified to celebrate this generous gift from Philip Morris International,” said Dr. Johnny Wynne, CALS dean, who hosted the check presentation and celebration.

“We are pleased that PMI is willing to support not only financial investment but strong partnerships with our faculty who are working on behalf of our mutual clientele.”

Among those present were CALS faculty members directly involved in projects that benefit from PMI support, including Dr. Ramsey Lewis, crop science; Dr. Loren Fisher, crop science Extension specialist; Dr. Mike Boyette, Philip Morris Professor of biological and agricultural engineering; and Dr. Ralph Dewey, crop science.

Also participating were Ken Sigmon, associate vice chancellor for University Development; Dr. Sylvia Blankenship, CALS associate dean for administration and interim director, N.C Agricultural Research Service; Dr. Ken Esbenshade, CALS associate dean and director of Academic Programs; and Dr. Joe Zublena, associate director, Cooperative Extension.
