College of Agriculture and Life Sciences students Holly Parkins, Karoline White and Katherine Jackson (left) enjoy a visit to a pasture-based organic dairy farm near Circleville, Ohio, en route to the joint meetings of the American Dairy Science Association and American Society of Animal Science in Indianapolis, Ind., this summer. Parkins, White and Jackson, all CALS Department of Animal Science students, participated in student meetings, held July 6-9. The meetings attracted nearly 100 students and advisers in addition to more than 3,000 professionals from the United States, Mexico, Canada and beyond.

During the meetings, Jackson, a junior from Orange County, placed first among eight entrants for undergraduate original research with her presentation, “The effect of milk-feeding method on cross-sucking behavior in pasture-based dairy calves fed once daily.” White, a rising senior from Harnett County, served as captain of N.C. State’s Dairy Quiz Bowl Team, and Parkins, a junior from Wayne County, reported on various club activities. Parkins and Jackson were also recognized for outstanding academic achievement though their sophomore years.
