AgCarolina Financial, a farmer-owned cooperative, has established an annual scholarship in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, N.C. State University. The AgCarolina Financial Scholarship was established Jan. 8 in an agreement signing ceremony hosted by Dr. Johnny Wynne, CALS dean.
The new scholarship agreement will annually provide financial assistance to five 4-year undergraduate students and to five 2-year Agricultural Institute students, all of whom are the children or grandchildren of a current member or employee of AgCarolina Financial and are enrolled in a traditional agricultural curriculum.
Gene Charville, the company’s president and CEO, and Linda Strickland, vice president of marketing, were on hand for the signing ceremony.
“We are excited to have AgCarolina Financial continue supporting the College,” said Wynne, noting the company’s previous support and ongoing association with the College.

Dr. Barbara Kirby, director of the Agricultural Institute, said, “I was really pleased that Ag Institute students will be part of this scholarship. This support makes it possible for these students to get the 2-year degree and go back into the industry and make an impact on the state.”
Added Marcy Bullock of CALS Career Services, “It’s a powerful partnership we’ve had with AgCarolina Financial over the years, as our student interns and our graduates as full-time employees have moved into your company.”
In reply, Charville said, “We have for a long time valued our relationship and association with N.C. State. We look first at N.C. State when we recruit and hire folks. We appreciate all you do for the state and the benefits we receive from it.”
An institution of the Farm Credit System, AgCarolina Financial provides financial support to rural eastern North Carolina through farm loans, agribusiness loans, home financing and rural property lending. Since 1916, the company has provided financing for agriculture and rural living. It has 12 branch offices in the state, including the Raleigh administrative and agribusiness division. --
