The N.C. State University Libraries has announced the establishment of the Dr. Thoyd Melton Endowment, which will benefit the libraries’ biological sciences collections. The fund memorializes Melton, who, at the time of his death in November 2000, was associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean of graduate studies at North Carolina A&T State University, as well as an N.C. State University adjunct professor in the College of Agriculture and Life Science’s Department of Microbiology. Before assuming his position at A&T, Melton was associate dean of N.C. State’s Graduate School and professor in the Department of Microbiology. He was nationally recognized for his success in attracting minority students to the sciences.
