The College’s Department of Poultry Science played host as Italian trade mission delegates visited university facilities, as well as poultry industry firms in the state. The group included representatives from the University of Bologna’s Institute di Zootecnia; the Consorzio Centuria in Cesena, Italy; ASL Bologna, an importer of turkey products; Agroalimentare del Fratelli Monaldi, a producer of standard and organic poultry and foods; the Virology Laboratory, Instituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale; and the Italian Trade Commission. The group was particularly interested in observing the activities of the College’s Animal and Poultry Waste Management Center, work with rapid egg-cooling technology, the conversion of poultry mortalities into fish and crab baits, the keritinase technology being developed on Centennial Campus and the on-farm HAACP program being developed by poultry Extension specialists. The three-day joint trade mission/scientific visit was organized through the Italian Trade Commission in New York, with cooperation from N.C. State (led by Dr. John Brake of the Poultry Science Department) and the University of Bologna.
