Christmas trees, specifically the Fraser fir, are big business in North Carolina. In fact, we’re second only to Oregon in the farming of this holiday essential. And it’ll stay that way, thanks to such NC State researchers as Drs. John Frampton, Eric Hinesley and Craig McKinley. Their achievements have resulted in strains of healthier trees that grow faster and with more uniform shapes, longer needle retention and better disease resistance. It’s just one shining example of how NC State is cross-pollinating the power of science with business. And helping to ensure that the bottom line is fat and jolly.
