Mary Laymon president of the Wake County Extension and Community Association (ECA), presents a check for $11,000 to Maurene Rickards, assistant director of the N.C. Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Foundation, as the initial donation toward the creation of the ECA's Maude P. McInnes Scholarship Endowment in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Pictured with them (left to right) are Carolyn Green, treasurer of Wake County ECA; Frances Turner, Wake County FCS Extension agent; Carol Cox, past president of Wake County ECA; and Brent Henry, Wake County Extension director. The occasion, on Feb. 28 at the Wake County Cooperative Extension center, marked the creation of the first ECA endowment to be established in the newly formed N.C. FCS Foundation. The scholarship honors Maude P. Mc Innes, who served as Wake County home demonstration agent for 25 years, and benefits a Wake County student with an annual $500 higher-education award.
