Dr. William R. Atchley, William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor of genetics, statistics and biomathematics at N.C. State University, has been elected Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Atchley joins 186 other distinguished Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members – including four college presidents, three Nobel Prize winners and four Pulitzer Prize winners – in this year’s class.

Atchley is one of the world’s leading experts in computational molecular evolution and developmental quantitative genetics, and he has published extensively in these areas. He is director of N.C. State’s Center for Computational Biology, which uses mathematical, statistical and computational tools to explore complex biological problems.
