Ornate letter "R"andy Senzig (left) discusses the types of organisms likely to be found in a North Carolina creek during an Environmental Science Camp. The camp, which is open to middle school students, is sponsored by the Biology Outreach Program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This year’s camp, held in June, was the fourth sponsored by the Biology Outreach Program. While the week-long camp included a number of field trips, most activities were at the Historic Yates Mill County Park adjacent to the College’s Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory just south of Raleigh. “We’re trying to give the children an opportunity to develop an appreciation and awareness of their natural surroundings,” said Senzig, who teaches environmental and earth science and marine ecology at Fuquay-Varina High School. The discussion of creek life took place on the last day of the camp in the creek that flows from Yates Mill Pond.
