More than 100 people gathered at the N.C. State University Club on April 26 to celebrate the signing of eight new endowments supporting a variety of programs of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. The luncheon event also marked the first-ever joint meeting of the three foundations that provide private support for Extension: the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Foundation, 4-H Development Fund, and Family and Consumer Sciences Foundation.

Dr. Johnny C. Wynne, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, presided over the luncheon. Dr. Joe Zublena, Extension associate director, brought greetings on behalf of Extension director Dr. Jon Ort who was in Washington, D.C., for the Public Issues Leadership Development Conference. Representing the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences was head Dr. Sandy Zaslow.

"Today, we reach an important milestone in the work of the foundations as we celebrate the generosity of so many," Wynne said.

Guests included Dr. Myrle Swicegood, retired head of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Clemson University and former district program leader in North Carolina, and Wanda Denning, president of the State Extension Advisory Board.

    The eight new endowments are:
  • North Carolina 4-H Horse Scholarship Endowment

  • Ila McIlwean White Family and Consumer Sciences Endowment
  • Wake County Maude P. McInnes Scholarship Endowment
