Thompson wins international award

Dr. Sarah Thompson
Sarah Thompson, a May Ph.D. graduate of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences turfgrass program, has received a $20,000 Award of Excellence from the prestigious Musser International Turfgrass Foundation.
Thompson, who now works for BASF chemical company in Research Triangle Park, also holds a 2003 master's degree in entomology from the College.
The international award, dedicated to fostering turfgrass management as a learned profession, goes annually to the top graduate student working in turfgrass science.
"Sarah has won every award she was nominated for and is, without a doubt, one of the top Ph.D. students we've had in our department," says Dr. Rick Brandenburg, professor and Extension specialist in the College's Department of Entomology.
Thompson's doctoral research on biological controls was part of an integrated pest management effort funded by N.C. State University's Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education, of which Brandenburg is co-director.
