Gamma Sigma Delta taps alumni, faculty

Three College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumni and five faculty members became members of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture, during the society’s 54th Initiation Program and Awards Banquet in April.

Distinguished alumni honored were Dr. Dean Bushey, Global Regulatory Affairs Manager for Cotton with Bayer CropScience; Jimmy Gentry, North Carolina State Grange president; and Raymond Starling, N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services general counsel.

Faculty initiates were Bob Edwards, North Carolina Cooperative Extension North Central District director; Dr. Candace Haigler, CALS professor of crop science and plant biology; Dr. Steven Lommel, interim associate dean for research, CALS, and assistant vice chancellor for research, N.C. State University; Dr. Thearon McKinney, associate department head and associate state 4-H leader, Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family and Consumer Sciences; and Dr. James Moyer, head, Department of Plant Pathology.

Forty-seven undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and alumni were initiated. Dean Johnny Wynne, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Dr. Michael Benson, chapter president and professor of plant pathology, presided.
