Steve E. Smith, a 1966 graduate of the Agricultural Institute in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has created an endowment to provide scholarships for future Ag Institute students. The Steve E. Smith Agricultural Institute Scholarship Endowment was established April 9 in an agreement-signing between Smith and the College during the annual meeting of the N.C. Tobacco Foundation Inc. board at the N.C. State University Club.

Smith, a 35-year tobacco warehouse businessman from Reidsville, is a member of the board of directors of the N.C. Tobacco Foundation Inc. and of the Tobacco Growers Association of North Carolina and is a past member of the Flue-Cured Tobacco Advisory Committee (U.S. Department of Agriculture).

The endowment will provide merit-based scholarship awards to students in the Ag Institute for one academic year.
