North Carolina’s delegation to the 78th National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C., participated March 29-April 3 as more than 350 youth and adults gathered to share ideas and form recommendations to guide the future of 4-H youth development programs nationally and in their communities.
The North Carolina 4-H’ers in attendance included Sarah Troxler, Alamance County; Victoria Hall, Alleghany County; Mary Hardison, Harnett County; Ashley Harris, Northampton County; Jacob Furr, Stanly County; Allison Walser, Wake County; and Caleb Black, Yancey County. Their chaperones were Greg Clemmons, Extension 4-H, and Gwindy Stewart, 4-H volunteer, both from Onslow County.
The theme of the conference was “Green Aid: Acquire, Inform, Deliver,” as delegates focused on how the 4-H Youth Development Program can aid in enhancing the environmental awareness of clubs, their communities, the country and the world.
Delegates also met with their state legislators on Capitol Hill Day to discuss state 4-H programs with congressional members and their staffs. The North Carolina 4-H’ers had the opportunity to meet with both N.C. Sen. Elizabeth Dole and N.C. Sen. Richard Burr.
