Chancellor Marye Anne Fox leads the ribbon-cutting at the opening of the Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST) building in Morehead City in October. The center will be a focal point for the university’s efforts to preserve the state’s coastal natural resources. The facility is home to North Carolina Cooperative Extension’s Carteret County Center, as well as numerous university labs and programs related to marine sciences. It also houses instructors from Carteret County Community College and marine extension specialists from N.C. Sea Grant.
