New endowment will fund FCS programs
Through a generous contribution from Dr. Nadine F. Tope, retired foods and nutrition specialist in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, the College’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences has created the North Carolina Family and Consumer Sciences Program Development Endowment. The August endowment-signing ceremonies took place at the annual conference of the FCS Agents Association at Asheville’s Biltmore Estate. The endowment will provide awards to support the development of innovative programs proposed by FCS extension faculty, specialists and agents. Criteria and priorities for the program development proposals will be determined annually by a committee appointed and led by the FCS Department head. Dr. Tope will serve as a non-voting member of the committee. Well-known for her commitment to Extension and her strong rapport with agents across the state, Dr. Tope is an expert at interpreting research findings for her layman clientele. She also has helped expedite the creation of cancer testing clinics throughout the state, and her publications are still circulated widely and used by Extension agents. Gifts to the North Carolina Family and Consumer Sciences Program Development Endowment can be made through the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation Inc., Box 7645, Raleigh, NC, 27695.
