Golden LEAF awards grant
to Oxford Produce Auction

The Oxford Wholesale Produce Auction has received a grant of $52,853 from Golden LEAF (Long-Term Economic Advancement Foundation). Carl Cantaluppi, horticulture agent in Granville and Person counties, says the grant will be used to purchase a forklift truck and two walk-in refrigerators for the auction.

“These items will greatly enhance the capability of the auction to function more efficiently and to help increase the volume and flow of produce through the auction,” he said.

Forklifts will help growers quickly load and unload the produce onto pallets so there is no delay in starting the auction or getting the produce onto the buyers’ trucks.

The walk-in refrigerators will keep produce fresh and give growers the option of bringing produce to the site in advance of the auction dates. The refrigerators should be installed early next year to be fully operational when the auction opens later in the year.
