Specialists Association meets May 15
The N.C. Association of Cooperative Extension Specialists (NCACES) will hold its final meeting of the academic year May 15, 9-11 a.m., 2405 Williams Hall. The agenda includes a panel on fee-for-service program options and experiences, administrative update, officer elections and awards. Snacks and beverages will be available, so stop by early to mingle.
Nominate candidates for specialists awards by April 30
Nominations are being accepted for awards given by the North Carolina Association of Cooperative Extension Specialists. Winners will be recognized at the May 15 meeting of NCACES and will receive a cash award.
N.C. Cooperative Extension Program finalists to give presentations
The two finalists to become the next associate administrator for The Cooperative Extension Program at N.C. A&T State University have seminar presentations that will be open to SAES faculty, staff and students scheduled: beginning with a seminar by Dr. Karen G. Gehrt on Tuesday, April 3, and followed with a presentation by Dr. Fletcher Barber on Monday, April 9. Both seminars will be at the Godfrey Multi-Purpose Room at A&T’s Coltrane Hall, and both will begin at 11 a.m.
Nancy Keith named Iredell Cooperative Extension director
Nancy Keith, who has directed North Carolina Cooperative Extension programs in Yadkin County since 2007, has been named Cooperative Extension director in Iredell County.
Extension part of N.C. State service award
N.C. Cooperative Extension is recognized as one of the factors in North Carolina State University receiving the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement – a Presidential Award. As part of the 2012 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, N.C. State is one of only five Presidential Awardees nationwide, and one of two in the “general community service” category.
Owings named Henderson Extension Director
Marvin Owings, long-time Cooperative Extension agent in Henderson County, has been named to direct Extension programs in the county.
ESP presents awards at annual meeting
North Carolina’s Xi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi professional development society presented awards to Extension professionals at its annual meeting in Raleigh Nov. 17. Award winners, along with a description from their nominations, are listed here.
Naderman receives national FFA honor
Dr. George C. Naderman Jr. of Cary, retired Extension soil specialist with N.C. State University, received the Honorary American FFA Degree during the 84th National FFA Convention, held Oct. 21-23 in Indianapolis. The award is given to those who advance agricultural education and FFA through outstanding personal commitment.
Chapman is guest on Tarheel Talk
Ben Chapman, Extension food safety specialist in N.C. State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, will be interviewed Sunday, Nov. 20 at 6:30 a.m. on Fox50′s Tarheel Talk in the Triangle area.
Register now for Nov. 17 ESP meeting
Registration is now underway for the Nov. 17 annual meeting of Epsilon Sigma Phi, XI Chapter. The meeting will be held at the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost of the meeting is $25, and a registration form is available on the XI Chapter website.
