N.C. Cooperative Extension Service announces strategic plan

The N.C. Cooperative Extension Service held a listening session for its employees and others during the State Extension Conference in Raleigh Nov. 6, 2013.

The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service at N.C. State University announced a strategic plan for restructuring the century-old organization by targeting its strengths, improving access to services across the state and refocusing resources to support its refined core areas. Dr. Joe Zublena, director of the Extension Service at N.C. State, presented the plan to Extension employees across the state via a webinar on August 12.

JCEP recognizes N.C. Cooperative Extension Facilitation Team

The Joint Council of Extension Professionals (JCEP) has selected the N.C. Cooperative Extension Facilitation Team as one of two recipients for the JCEP Excellence in Teamwork Award and as a presenter for the 2015 JCEP Conference in Las Vegas.

Friends and employees of North Carolina Cooperative Extension came to Raleigh May 19-20 to celebrate Extension’s centennial with a barbecue dinner, legislative advocacy and the signing of a proclamation declaring May 20 as N.C. Cooperative Extension Day. More than 1,000 people were on hand Monday evening at the N.C. State Fairgrounds Expo Center for dinner and a program celebrating Extension’s past, present and future. This month marks 100 years since the signing of the Smith-Lever Act that created Extension programs across the country.

Extension Visioning Team continues its work

The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) Strategic Vision & Planning Initiative continues to make significant strides in 2014. In January, the organization’s Visioning Team, made up of about 50 Extension employees, county government partners and volunteer leaders, gathered in Browns Summit to review and synthesize the input from 14 recent public listening sessions and online comments.

Ada Dalla Pozza, groundbreaking Cooperative Extension educator, dies at 91

Ada Dalla Pozza was a pioneering Cooperative Extension agent, faculty member, administrator, mentor and volunteer for seven decades. In this 2011 photo, she celebrates the launch of the Extension & Community Association Foundation.

A pioneering educator who devoted decades to improving the lives of North Carolinians, especially its women and children, passed away Jan. 31 at the age of 91. Ada Braswell Dalla Pozza of Cary served North Carolina Cooperative Extension at N.C. State University for more than 70 years as an agent, faculty member, mentor and volunteer.
