Date posted: October 27, 2010
Robert J. Hawk, a community resource development Extension agent for a 12-county area of western North Carolina, has been named the new county Extension director for both Jackson and Swain counties.
His appointment, effective Nov. 1, was announced by Jackson County Manager Ken Westmoreland, Swain County Manager Kevin King and Dr. Joe Zublena, interim director and director of county operations, North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. Hawk succeeds Jeffrey E. Seiler, who retired in October 2009, after serving as county Extension director in both counties for 10 years.
Hawk has held the position of community resource development agent, based in Waynesville, since 2004. He also has worked as an area Extension agent for community development, based in Sylva (2000-2003) and as a community development, agriculture and 4-H Extension agent in Cherokee (1997-2000).
Hawk earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure administration from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in parks, recreation and tourism management, with a minor in public policy and resource economics, from N.C. State University.
“I am pleased that Robert Hawk is joining our administrative team as county Extension director in Jackson and Swain counties” said Daniel Smith, director of Cooperative Extension’s West District, which includes Jackson and Swain. “Robert has done an outstanding job in his current position as an area community and rural development agent. I am certain that he will bring the same dedication, people skills and work ethic to the position of county Extension director.”
