Cooperative Extension, University Dining to offer ‘Cook Smart’
This fall, University Dining and North Carolina Cooperative Extension will partner to offer Cook Smart, Eat Smart to N.C. State students. The partnership will provide students with an opportunity to learn healthy cooking techniques.
This will be the first time the program is offered at N.C. State University. “Cook Smart, Eat Smart” is an eight-week education program, and classes will be held every Tuesday night from Sept. 13 to Nov. 1. Participants will learn simple cooking techniques, healthy eating habits and food safety.
To register, students can visit ncsudiningcook.wordpress.com and fill out the online form. Registration does not guarantee acceptance into the class. On Aug. 31, students will be randomly selected from the forms received to fill a limited number of spots. Once enrolled, participants must pay a $5 fee to cover the cost of cooking materials.
“Cook Smart, Eat Smart” was developed by Eat Smart, Move More North Carolina to promote opportunities for healthy eating and physical activities. The eight-week program will be instructed by two graduate students — Kristen Baughman and Sarah Beitzel — who are enrolled in the Cooperative Extension graduate program at N.C. State. Dr. Carolyn Dunn of N.C. Cooperative Extension’s family and consumer sciences program will ensure that the program standards are met.
