Nov. 10, 12 are deadlines for CFSA conference

Date posted: November 4, 2010

Winston-Salem will be the host city for the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association’s (CFSA) 25th annual sustainable agriculture conference Dec. 3-5, and the CFSA is going to pick up the tab for 40 new-to-agriculture farmers (with less than 10 years experience) who would like to come to Winston-Salem for a crash course. Fourteen of the 40 beginning farmer scholarships are earmarked for minority farmers. The application deadline for these scholarships — each a $275 value — is Friday, Nov. 12.

North Carolina Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NC SARE) has some funding available to offset lodging and registration expenses for Extension agents interested in attending the conference. (NC SARE does not have funding support for transportation or meals.) The application deadline for this funding support is Nov. 10.

The 2010 CFSA conference includes more than 60 workshops and tours. The keynote speaker this year is Michael Shuman, the author of Small-Mart Revolution: How Local Businesses are Beating the Global Competition.
