Two scholarships available for energy conference

Date posted: August 1, 2012

North Carolina Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program/Southern SARE is providing scholarships to send two N.C. Cooperative Extension agents to the North Central Carbon, Energy and Climate Conference, September 26-28 at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Biological Station.

This invitation-only event will involve approximately 110-120 individuals from the 12 North Central Region states, as well as a few participants and speakers from other parts of the United States.  Most of the audience will be land-grant university extension faculty and staff, along with farmers, non-profit leaders and state and federal agency representatives.

The Kellogg Biological Station has a great mix of field research on bioenergy and climate and serves as the only National Science Foundation long-term agroecological research site in the United States. The timing in late September will allow conferees to see a variety of herbaceous and woody biomass crops at full growth and do some hands-on work with soils, weather, gas collection and more.  Dr. Dean Baas, our Michigan SARE state co-coordinator, has been leading the planning effort.
More information is available on the draft conference program. Apply as soon as possible with this energy conference scholarship application.
