Votes cast for dean’s ice cream
Date posted: April 24, 2013
It is too early to know yet what College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Dean Richard Linton’s official ice cream will be, but the votes have been cast.
On an unseasonably cool Tuesday, April 23, several hundred students and faculty members queued up on the brickyard to sample and select from two choices. The mid-50s temperatures were perhaps a testament to the proposition there is no better way to draw a crowd than free ice cream.
The choices: ice cream A, dark chocolate, tart cherries and a white chocolate swirl, or ice cream B, dark chocolate, tart cherries, chocolate chunks and marshmallow swirl. Both concoctions were, of course, Howling Cow ice cream made in the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Science’s Feldmeier Dairy Processing Lab in Schaub Hall.
The mid-day tasting event featured celebrity scoopers in the person of Dean Linton and his wife, Sally, and various associate and assistant deans and department heads.
Ice cream tasters were given samples of each flavor and asked to pick a favorite and propose a name. The top vote getter will be the dean’s official ice cream.
All in all, voters consumed approximately 100 gallons of Howling Cow ice cream.
