CALS graduate students earn top honors at national scientific meeting

Animal science doctoral student Yihang Li was honored as a finalist in the graduate student paper competition at the ASN event in San Diego.

The students were among winners at the 2014 Experimental Biology meetings, in conjunction with the American Society for Nutrition’s 78th Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting.

Swartzel retirement, FSLI anniversary, APLU endowment are celebrated

The APLU FSLI Endowment will support the APLU Food Systems Leadership Award and future enhancements. Swartzel directed the FSLI from its founding until his recent retirement.

Research Campus launches effort to engage students in science

An unprecedented partnership of academic and industry organizations at the North Carolina Research Campus has launched a groundbreaking $1.5 million program to engage college students from across the state in a first-of-its-kind education and research endeavor. Called the Plant Pathways Elucidation Project (P2EP), the program teams up university scientists, industry leaders and college students to explore how fruits and vegetables benefit human health.

Land-grant universities honored with Borlaug Medallion

In recognition of the many contributions that land-grant universities like N.C. State University have made to improving food production, the World Food Prize has awarded its Borlaug Medallion to U.S. land-grant universities. This year, as N.C. State celebrates its 125th anniversary, land-grant universities across the country also are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Act of 1862 that started the land-grant system.
