Tobacco Abstracts
Description: Tobacco Abstracts is the only abstracting & indexing (A&I) service devoted solely to tobacco and available to the general public.
Subject Coverage: Subject coverage includes tobacco pests & diseases, culture, harvesting & curing, seedling production, tobacco molecular genetics, tobacco molecular biology, plant physiology, biotechnology, biopharming (molecular farming for plant-based pharmaceuticals & industrial compounds), chemistry of the leaf & products, traditional breeding, economics, advertising & marketing, history, manufacturing techniques, toxicology, taxation, and regulatory affairs. Medical papers are included if they identify new compounds in the leaf or products, toxicity mechanisms, or otherwise add to the literature on human health risk and its reduction. Smoking cessation is not covered.
Format Coverage: Most of the items included in Tobacco Abstracts in the most current years are journal articles. There are also some standards (such as CORESTA Standard Methods), book chapters, and entries for Cooperative Extension Service publications. In the older years of Tobacco Abstracts there is also selective coverage of US patents, dissertations, more book chapters, and other material types.
Coverage list: A publication coverage list is under development and will be linked on this Web site when available. Current coverage includes refereed scientific journals from commercial and society publishers, abstracts from the Tobacco Workers’ Conference (TWC), the Tobacco Science Research Conference (TSRC), and meetings of CORESTA; inclusion of other types of materials, such as book chapters and Extension Service publications, is planned.
Format & History:
- 1957-2001: Print: The Inaugural print volume of Tobacco Abstracts appeared in 1956; and from that date until Volume 45 for 2001, Tobacco Abstracts was a print publication, only.
- 2002-2003: CD-ROM: With Volume 46 for 2002, the format was changed from print to searchable CD-ROM. Print not available for these years.
- 2002-Present: Web-based database. Print/CD not available for 2004, forward.

Recent Advances in Tobacco Science

Description: Recent Advances in Tobacco Science is the Proceedings of the opening symposium held at every annual Tobacco Science Research Conference (TSRC, formerly the Tobacco Chemists’ Research Conference, TCRC). The publication is distributed solely through the Tobacco Literature Service as a service to the Conference. All volumes from Volume 1, 1974 through the present are available for purchase. As of December 2006, the most current Volume is 32, for 2006.
Content: Each volume focuses on a specific topic in tobacco chemistry, reflected in volume title.
