The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University has a broad mission -- "to discover, develop, teach and apply knowledge and technology that enable students, clientele, and citizens of North Carolina and others to improve the quality of their lives and to enhance the agricultural, economic, environmental, and social well being of the state and world and to create and extend new knowledge through scientific research and extension in agriculture and the life sciences." Through its Academic Programs Office, the college offers associate's, bachelor's and master's and doctoral programs in subjects ranging from agronomy to zoology. Our 4,000-plus students work alongside some of the nation's leading researchers in basic and applied life sciences. The North Carolina Agricultural Research Service, based in the college, serves as the state's principal agency for research in agriculture, life sciences and forestry. To ensure that North Carolinians have access to the knowledge generated through research, the college works in partnership with county governments, N.C. A&T State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to offer extension education programs in all 100 counties and on the Cherokee Reservation. These programs address high-priority local issues related to agriculture and natural resources, community and rural development, family and consumer sciences and 4-H youth development. COLLEGE
