The college offers degrees in environmental sciences, natural resource economics, fisheries and wildlife science and more. And its scientists pursue answers to some of North Carolina's most important environmental issues: how, for example, to protect drinking water from urban runoff and farm chemicals, to treat contaminated soils and to ensure survival of endangered and rare plants and animal amid development pressures. Specializing in issues related to agriculture and the environment, the college has the nation's largest organic farming systems unit. And its waste management programs are leading the way in finding new economically and environmentally sound ways of dealing with wastes from livestock and poultry operations. Meanwhile, Cooperative Extension's acclaimed Neuse Education Team works to address water-quality education issues from the Neuse's headwaters in Orange and Person counties to its mouth at the Pamlico Sound. And its Natural Resources Leadership Institute has an eight-year history of training people in collaborative problem-solving and negotiation on often contentious environmental issues. ENVIRONMENT,
