University, agriculture department
move to aid disaster victims

North Carolina State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services are taking several steps to assist victims of Hurricane Isabel.

North Carolina Cooperative Extension, headquartered in the college, has set up a disaster fund for those adversely affected by the storm, says Dr. Johnny Wynne, the college's interim dean.

Wynne says donations, which are tax-deductible, may be made to the Hurricane Isabel Disaster Relief Fund. Checks should be sent to the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service Foundation at Campus Box 7645, N.C. State University, Raleigh, N.C., 27695.

For information, call Dr. Joe Zublena, Cooperative Extension's associate director and director of county operations, at 919.515.2813.

Also, Cooperative Extension and the state agriculture department are accepting crates or boxes of nonperishable food items and cleaning products at the Central Crops Research Station, 13223 U.S. 70 West, Clayton.

For information, contact station superintendent Dr. Reid Evans at 919.553.2141 or at CentralCrops.ResSt@ncmail.net. Evans will coordinate the effort.
