Agricultural Foundation president, 919.515.9262 or keith_oakley@ncsu.edu The North Carolina Agricultural Foundation presented North Carolina Senate President Pro-Tempore Marc Basnight (D-NC) with its 2005 Distinguished Service Award on Dec. 16 in recognition of his outstanding support of North Carolina State University and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Each year, the foundation honors select individuals with the Distinguished Service Award for their commitment to the college, the university and North Carolina agriculture in general. Basnight backed recent legislation that provided $3.7 million in continuing salary support for N.C. State research and field, or Extension, faculty across the state. “We are very appreciative of Senator Basnight for his longstanding support of the college and our mission to serve communities across the state,” said Dean Johnny Wynne, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. “In particular, Senator Basnight has been a champion for the positive impact that our 4-H youth development programs have on youth statewide. With his leadership, the Eastern 4-H Center received an appropriation from the General Assembly to construct a much-needed additional cabin and teaching laboratory.” The North Carolina Agricultural Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable and educational corporation that was formed in 1944 to aid and promote education and research in agriculture at or through N.C. State University. --Suzanne Stanard, 919-513-3126 or suzanne_stanard@ncsu.edu--
