North Carolina State University is accepting applications for a hands-on laboratory summer program for high school students that focuses on biotechnology. N.C. State's Summer College in Biotechnology and Life Sciences allows high school students to take college-level courses. The program, from July 10 through Aug. 4, is designed for students who wish to experience a university environment and explore biotechnology laboratory techniques and careers. The program offers residential and non-residential options. Students must have at least a 3.5 weighted GPA and have completed basic high school biology and/or chemistry to enroll. Some scholarship funding is available. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until courses reach enrollment capacity. Students will earn college credit for coursework. The coursework features hands-on experience with cutting-edge scientific techniques. Students will interact with undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral scientists and faculty at N.C. State. The program also features tours of research facilities and enterprises in Research Triangle Park, where students will learn about scientific careers.
