School IPM Pest Control Workshops Offered

The School IPM Program of North Carolina State University will hold training workshops across the state in November. Owners, managers and technicians of pest control companies that service or intend to service North Carolina schools are encouraged to attend.

Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, is a proactive and common-sense approach to pest control that dramatically reduces the risk of exposure to pesticides for students, teachers and staff in public schools. Last June, the state legislature passed the School Children's Health Act that requires school districts to implement IPM programs.

At the half-day workshops, participants will:

  • Learn about the School Children's Health Act.
  • Learn to implement school IPM programs in schools successfully.
  • Earn continuing education credits.
  • Receive a training certificate.

Training sessions will be conducted at county centers of North Carolina Cooperative Extension and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The following are dates and locations for each session:

  • Nov. 3, Winston-Salem
  • Nov. 7, Raleigh
  • Nov. 8, Wilmington
  • Nov. 13, Clinton
  • Nov. 15, Asheville
  • Nov. 22, Greenville

The workshops are sponsored by North Carolina Cooperative Extension, N.C. State University. Each workshop is free of charge, but participants are urged to register in advance. Registration materials can be downloaded from http://schoolipm.ncsu.edu.
