| Students from across North Carolina have received 4-H scholarships from the North Carolina 4-H Foundation to attend institutions of higher learning. Scholarship winners are listed by county, along with their age, parents' names and hometowns, scholarships received, intended majors and institution they plan to attend in the fall, where available. 4-H is a program of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. In 2005, North Carolina 4-H programs engaged 199,000 young people ages 5-18 in hands-on learning experiences across 100 counties. 4-H Youth Development is dedicated to helping youth develop the essential life skills required for active citizenship, productive employment and a healthy future. North Carolina Cooperative Extension is an educational partnership of North Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T State University, county governments and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Cooperative Extension's mission is to help people put research-based knowledge to work for economic prosperity, environmental stewardship and an improved quality of life. Beaufort County: Valerie Booth, 18, daughter of William and Marian Booth of Washington, received the Gorden E. Sawyer Scholarship. She plans to major in sports entertainment event management at Johnson & Wales University. Cabarrus County: Daniel Outen, 18, son of Donald and Pam Outen of Concord, received the Southwest 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. He plans to major in business at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Beth Tevepaugh, 17, daughter of Jan and Mark Tevepaugh of Davidson, received an N.C. 4-H Horse Program Scholarship. She plans to major in pharmacy at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Kristen Mason, 18, daughter of Deval and Barbara Mason of Harrisburg, received three scholarships: a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship, the Dr. Eloise Cofer 4-H Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship and the Southwest Huddleston Electric Scholarship. She plans to major in interior design at Appalachian State University. Allison Goff, 20, daughter of Dave and Gina Goff of Concord, received the Edmund and Elizabeth Aycock Scholarship. She is a junior majoring in communication disorders at N.C. State University. Camden County: Kestrel Lannon, 20, daughter of Brian and Darlene Lannon of Camden, received the Joe and Barbara Brooks Scholarship. She is a junior majoring in horticultural science at N.C. State. Currituck County: Katelin Kight, 17, daughter of Rodney and Georgia Kight of Barco, received the William E. Sawyer Memorial Scholarship. She plans to major in environmental studies at the College of the Albemarle. April Lee, 18, daughter of Lonnie and Jackie Lee of Coinjock, received the Dr. Gary S. and Patricia H. Davis Poultry Science Scholarship. She will major in pre-veterinary studies at N.C. State University. Davidson County: Rebecca Jones, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jones of Lexington, received the Ray Wilkinson Communication Scholarship. She is a sophomore majoring in communications at Appalachian State University. Edgecombe County: Jessica Hlebak, 17, daughter of Don and Marilyn Augustine of Macclesfield, received two scholarships: the General Henry Hugh Shelton Scholarship and the Robert N. Wood Scholarship. She plans to study biological sciences at N.C. State University. Forsyth County: Sam Nzewi, 18, son of Dr. Emmanuel and Sochi Nzewi of Kernersville, received two scholarships: the Reece and Jessie Crouse Northwest District Scholarship and a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. He plans to major in health management and biotechnology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Gates County: Graylen Boone, 18, daughter of Sylvia and Grafton Boone Sr. of Gates, received a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. She plans to major in computer science and meteorology at N.C. State University. Henderson County: Katie Dotson, 17, daughter of Rothey and Christine Dotson of Hendersonville, received a Rachel Kirby Thomas and Dr. Frank Bancroft Thomas 4-H Foods and Nutrition Scholarship. She plans to major in culinary arts at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Iredell County: Justin Hardin, 21, son of Bob and Cindy Hardin of Statesville, received the L.R. Harrill Scholarship. He is a junior majoring in animal science at N.C. State University. Jones County: Madison County: Maribeth Mickey, 18, daughter of Steven and Sue Mickey of Mars Hill, received two scholarships: the Carolyn Smith Ivey Scholarship and the Denver Robinson Scholarship. She plans to major in biology and animal science at Montreat College. Mitchell County: Emily Varney, 18, daughter of Benny and Abby Varney of Spruce Pine, received two scholarships: the Dr. Clarence Poe Scholarship and the L.R. Harrill Scholarship. She plans to major in psychology or mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Daniel Buchanan, 21, son of Brooks and Robin Buchanan of Spruce Pine, received two scholarships: the Mitchell County 4-H Scholarship and the Robert and Helen Runion Scholarship. He plans to major in culinary arts and restaurant management at Johnson & Wales University. Montgomery County: Laura Hubman Williams, 20, of Mt. Gilead received the Rudolph Carl Ellis Scholarship. She is a junior majoring in agricultural education at N.C. State University. New Hanover County: Ellen Stanley, 20, daughter of Stephen and Kay Stanley of Wilmington, received the L.R. Harrill Scholarship. She is majoring in political science and Spanish at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Northampton County: Tim Gubitz, 18, son of Michael Gubitz of Conway, received two scholarships: the L.R. Harrill Scholarship and the Edmund and Elizabeth Aycock Scholarship. He plans to major in electrical engineering at N.C. State University. Ebony Harris, 17, daughter of Gregory and Evangelyn Harris of Conway, received two scholarships: the Thomas A. Carter Family 4-H Poultry Scholarship and the Tom Hobgood Northeast 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. She plans to major in poultry science at N.C. State University. Pasquotank County: Cody Lamb, 17, son of Glenn and Denise Lamb of Hertford, received the Vernon James Scholarship. He plans to major in agriculture business at N.C. State University. Breanne Williams, 17, daughter of Mark and Deborah Williams of Elizabeth City, received the Anne Kristine Barnes Scholarship. She plans to major in pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Pitt County: Billy Lewis, 18, son of Miriam and John Lewis of Walstonburg, received two scholarships: the Gary Stott Scholarship and the Teeter Family Scholarship. He plans to major in animal science and agronomy at N.C. State University. Randolph County: Kerri Frazier, 18, daughter of Craig and Kirsten Frazier of Sophia, received the Jane K. Stuart Scholarship. She plans to major in livestock and poultry management at N.C. State University. Robeson County: Chiquita Grissett, 18, daughter of Larry and Mary Grissett of Fairmont, received a 4-H Youth Development Fund Scholarship. She plans to major in dental hygiene at Robeson Community College. Phillip McArn, 19, son of Mable Haywood and Lance McArn of Red Springs, received a Rudolph Carl Ellis Scholarship. He will attend N.C. State University.Rockingham County: Chelsea Barnum, 18, daughter of Bob and Enid Barnum of Summerfield, received two scholarships: the 4-H Horse Program Scholarship and the Robert N. Wood Scholarship. She plans to major in animal science and agribusiness at N.C. State University. Rutherford County: Sampson County: Marcus White, 18, son of Leroy and Joyce White of Clinton, received the Victoria Jean Cope Scholarship. He plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Scotland County: Ryan Norton, 18, son of Stephanie Jenkins of Laurinburg, received a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. He will attend Lenoir Community College next year. Stanly County: Katie Hatley, 18, daughter of Gary and Sandy Hatley of Stanfield, received the L.R. Harrill Scholarship. She plans to major in elementary education at Pfeiffer University. Wake Couunty: Amy Indence, 18, daughter of Pat and Debbie Indence of Youngsville, received two scholarships: a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship and a North Central District 4-H Horse Scholarship. She plans to major in business at Meredith College. Heather Wiles, 18, daughter of Jo Anne and Brian Wiles of Wendell, received two scholarships: a North Central District 4-H Horse Scholarship and a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. She plans to major in elementary education at Appalachian State University. Wayne County: Jonathan Stutts, 18, son of John and Lucy Stutts of Goldsboro, received two scholarships: a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship and the Dr. Clarence Poe Scholarship. He plans to major in exercise and sport science at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Joel Sullivan, 18, son of Mac and Gray Sullivan of Goldsboro, received a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship. He plans to major in business and food management in culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University. Becca Lee, 20, daughter of Greg and Tammy Lee of Goldsboro, received two scholarships: the Geraldine Kennedy Capps Scholarship and the Lorna W. Langley Scholarship. She is majoring in family and consumer science at Meredith College. Ryan Roberson, 18, son of Steve and Lesli Roberson of Black Creek, received the Victoria Jean Cope Scholarship. He plans to major in animal science and agriculture at Wayne Community College. Yancey County: Daniel Semon, 17, son of Linda and David Semon of Burnsville, received two scholarships: the John C. McLean Scholarship and a 4-H Development Fund Scholarship.
