- FFA ceremonies have the
distinct purpose of focusing member attention on official FFA activity
or function at which they are peformed. FFA ceremonies are a type of
"interest approach" for an activity. Official ceremonies of the FFA
follow a specific script (that allows very little deviation), and
require the participation of chapter officers and members.
- The study guide for this
week is to learn the opening and closing ceremony for an official FFA
meeting, and the order of business for an FFA meeting.
- FFA
Opening Ceremony - used to open an official FFA meeting.
- FFA
Closing Ceremony - used to close an official FFA meeting.
- There are other
ceremonies as well - the Greenhand Ceremony, The Chapter FFA Degree
CXeremony, and the Honorary Degree Ceremony to name a few. The Official
FFA manual has all of these ceremonies described in detail.
- Once the meeting has
been opened by the opening ceremony, what do you do? Well, Robert's Rules of Order
Online has a standard order of business for an official business
meeting. Use this as a starting point for planning FFA chapter business
meetings.
- Not all FFA meetings
are "business-based." That is, some meetings are recreational or
awards-based, and do not require an order of business. My
recommendation is that the FFA chapter have four business meetings per
year, and a monthly chapter meeting that allows for recreational and
social activity or awards presentation.
- So, what do FFA chapter
officers do? Visit
the
National FFA Organization website to find out.
