Back in the 1980s,
SAE was known
as SOEP. No matter what acronym is used, the underlying philosophy is
timeless. Read John Crunkilton's article from the December, 1984 Agricultural
Education Magazine, "SOEP: Manifesting
our
Philosophy."
Hoover and
Arrington published an article,
"SAE Research Findings" in the
November,
1994 Agricultural Education Magazine that describes many of the
benefits
of SAE.
Kaczor provides
a good overview of the value of experiential learning in her article, "SOE is a Dynamic Instructional Tool" (The
Agricultural
Education Magazine, March 1983).
"SAE
is Problem Solving" was written by
Keaton and King and appeared in the Nov.-Dec. 1999 issue of The
Agricultural
Education Magazine.
Read Retallick's
article "Reframing SAE: The Tricycle
Principle"
from the May-June 2003 issue of The Agricultural Education Magazine.
Read the article
"What in the World Does Integral Mean Anyway?"
Pay special attention to
the graphic.
Read The Agricultural
Education Magazine article by Moore entitled "Two Angora
Goats."
Read Section 10
of the Smith-Hughes
Act. (you will have to scroll down to find section 10).
View the PowerPoint
presentation "Why
SAE?" or download
it.

Laboratory:
For
students taking the class on campus, there is a two hour lab. This activity will
be
done during the lab.
For
distance
education students, the lab will be described and the student will be
responsible
for performing the activity.
|
Introduction: The lab for
this week focuses on resources
that are available that can help current and future teachers teach and
conduct
the SAE program.
Lab
Outcome:
Students are to visit the following web
sites
that contain SAE resources. For most sites visited, one question that
can
be put into a Scavenger Hunt activity is to be developed. For example
the
following questions might be developed:
In
addition
to the question, the URL where the answer can be found must be
provided.
A total of 20
questions must be developed. This activity is to
be completed
using WebCT Vista.
