Learning Activities:

These actvities should be completed before class for on-campus students as this provides a foundation for the class discussion.

For distance education students, these activities constitute the lesson. Pay special attention to the PowerPoint Presentation.

View the slide presentation "Child Labor Laws" or download it.

Read "Understanding and Applying Child Labor Laws to Today's School-to Work Transition Programs at the National Center for Research in Vocational Education. This is a very thorough document and is an excellent reference.

Connecticut has a good web site of frequently asked questions regarding school to work issues. The answers are the same for North Carolina and most other states

If you want to view the document that contains the actual child-labor law language, visit this handy reference guide to The Fair Labor Standards Act  found at the Department of Labor web site.

Visit the North Carolina Department of Labor to learn more about their roles and responsibilities. Be sure to click on the wage and hours link in the bottom left corner.

Laboratory:

For students who are taking the class live on campus, there is a one and half hour lab. This activity will be done during the lab.

For distance education students, the lab will be described and the student will be responsible for performing the activity.
Introduction: The lab today is a little different. Basically we are going to do some role playing and also examine some case study scenarios. Please read the following case studies and formulate an answer to each case study. Go to the chat function in WebCT Vista and post your responses to the case studies. Also react to at least one response of your classmates.
