Class 2: Evolution of Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Programs

Objectives:
Upon completion of this lesson you should be able to:
 Discuss the origin and evolution of SAE.

Describe the different names used for SAE over the years.

Identify important milestones in the evolution of SAE.

Differentiate between the types of SAE programs students have today compared to 75 years ago.

Learning Activities:

These actvities should be completed before class for on-campus students as this provides a foundation for the class discussion.

For distance education students, these activities constitute the lesson. Pay special attention to the PowerPoint Presentation.

Read the paper by Gary Moore entitled "Where Are You When We Need You, Rufus Stimson." This paper was presented at the National Agricultural Education Research Meeting in Atlanta in 1985 and was later published in the Journal of Agricultural Education.

Read Gary Moore's article from The Agricutural Education Magazine. "Back to the Basics in Teaching Agriculture - The Project Plan."


Read The Agricultural Education Magazine article by G. Moore & J. Flowers entitled "Strengthening Programs Through an Expanded Model for SAE." (Volume 66 No 1.)

Laboratory:

For students taking the class on campus, there is a 2 hour lab. This activity will be done during the lab.

For distance education students, the lab will be described and the student will be responsible for performing the activity.

Introduction: You will complete the profile section of the AET.  You will enter your own personal information on these pages as if you were the student on whom the records are to be kept. On the FFA Awards, Offices and Committees pages enter your own leadership activities. If you were not in the FFA, please "invent" some FFA leadership activities.

You may need to go to www.ffa.org or www.ncffa.org to see what type of activities might be available. If you did not have an SAE program in high school, invent one you would have liked to accomplish.
