Presentation Technology (1unit)

One thing you can learn in this class is how to make snappy presentations. Now the question is, "How do you present them?". In this module we look at various ways in which PowerPoint and other computer generated presentations can be delivered to an audience.  We also look at other communication and presentation technologies that can be used by agricultural and extension educators. The manner in which you present information has a big impact on whether or not people will remember your presentation.

bullet More and more people are using Smartboards (electronic whiteboards). View this video demonstration of a Smartboard. You will be amazed if you are not familiar with the SmartBoard.

bullet Read an article from the Chronicle of Higher Education about electronic whiteboards.

bullet The major presentation technology in use today is the video projector (also known as a data projector or multimedia projector). What are some major factors to consider in buying a data projector.

bullet E-pinions.com let you zero in which projector you might be looking for and has some reviews.

bullet Read about Visual Presenters from the DuKane web site. Elmo is a leading manufacturer of these devices and they are sometimes mistakely called "Elmos" because of this.

bullet In many rural schools and extension offices, overheads are still used. So let's not forget about the overhead projector as a type of presentation technology. Read about how to properly use an overhead projector.

bullet The flip chart has been the mainstay of extension for years. It does have a number of advantages. Flip through these web pages and you may pick up some new ideas.

bullet The latest buzz in presentation technology is to involve the audience by letting them use hand held electronic clickers. Research shows that student learning is enhanced by using these clickers. Learn more about these clickers by visiting the web sites of two of the leading manufactures of this technology:

bullet  Skype is an easy-to-use, free video conferencing program. See a new story about Skype and then go to the Skype web site if you want to learn more or want to download it. If you want to have a video conference with me, just set up a time and we can commuinicate.

bullet If you use Skype, you will need a webcam. Review some tips on what to look for in buying a webcam.

bullet Professional presenters (and even some of us amateurs) use a "Presentation Remote Control"  when making PowerPoint presentations. They are relative inexpensive and are easy to use.

bullet  The PowerPoint presentation used in class on Presentation Technology can be downloaded.

Web cameras are located all over the world and let you see what is happening in a variety of locations at any momement. See if you can find some live web cam shots in your home state.

Assignments:

Identify 2-3 presentation technologies described in this module that you would like to have. Then prepare a one page proposal that you could present to you boss describing and justifying the items you want. Why do you want the items and how would you use them? Your proposal should identify the cost and model if applicable. Save this document as module6.doc and move to your www folder.
