Goals and Objectives

Course Description: Learners in AEE 575 examine marketing, public relations, and branding research. Efforts in the recruitment and retention of students/clients are investigated along with techniques appropriate for marketing agricultural and Extension education programs. The course capstone includes the development of communication campaigns and comprehensive marketing plans that allow learners to put course theory to practice. After completing this class, learners will be able to:
  1. Plan a comprehensive marketing plan tailored for their programs.
  2. Implement a comprehensive marketing plan tailored for their programs.
  3. Evaluate a comprehensive marketing plan tailored for their programs.
Specifically, learners will be able to:
  1. Explain the elements of marketing.
  2. Differentiate between marketing and public relations.
  3. Discuss the branding concept as it relates to marketing.
  4. Examine recruitment and retention efforts.
  5. Recognize and create personal and program images.
  6. Market programs via key program clientele and partners.
  7. Market program with articles, columns, electronic and paper newsletters and pamphlets.
  8. Conduct and successfully participate in an interview.
  9. Record a public service announcement.
  10. Develop educational posters for use in marketing programs.
  11. Prepare an exhibit for display that represents agricultural and/or Extension education.
  12. Evaluate web sites for marketing effectiveness.
  13. Assess perception or risk.
  14. Handle a communication crisis with appropriate marketing efforts.
  15. Plan a communication campaign for segment of local program.
  16. Select and utilize marketing tools appropriate for agricultural/Extension education programs.
