- The new 4-H professional
research, knowledge and competency (4-H PRKC, 2004) model provides a
road map for the 4-H youth development workforce of the future. It
represents the foundation of the 4-H youth development profession. Each
of the six domains describes competencies that can be used to design a
curriculum for youth workers or guide a 4-H Professional in his or her
daily work and in creating a professional development plan. The most
current and comprehensive research and knowledge representing the field
of 4-H youth development has been compiled in a study. The study also
identifies the current and emerging competencies that are essential to
conducting 4-H youth development programs. View the study here
and become familiar with how it applied to 4-H programming.
- A brief overview of the competencies included in the
4-H PRKC Model can be found here.
- Please note that the 4-H PRKC 2004 took the place of
the previous model, the Professional Research and Knowledge Base, which
was the model that was used from 1985 until PRKC took over in
2004. Bear this in mind when searching form up-to-date
information on the PRKC Model.
- The Cooperative Extension Curriculum Project offers a
variety of professional development short, computer-based courses that
address each competency of the PRKC Model. The link to the
website is here.
You must be registered to access the courses. To register, click
on "Campus Options" and then "Register." Fill out a brief registration
form, log in, then click on "All Courses" to view the courses available
to you. You will need to register and complete a short course as
part of this week's assignment.
