4-H Ceremony
  • When you start thinking about rituals and traditions in 4-H you may have a lot of things that come to mind. If you were a 4-H'er, 4-H Volunteer, or are and Agent now there are many rituals and traditions that you can look back on in your involvement in 4-H. To name a few : 4-H pledge, 4-H clover, 4-H colors, 4-H motto, and 4-H slogan. Listed below are some website to look at to start your quest on learning about 4-H rituals, traditions, and ceremonies.

  •  NC 4-H Honor Club has been around for many years in NC. The North Carolina 4-H Honor Club was organized in 1931 by Mr. L.R. Harrill as a way to develop a statewide 4-H service organization. Today, the NC 4-H Honor Club has almost 3000 members from across the state and nation. Click on the following website to find out what the NC 4-H Honor Club is all about. See a sample of their application process. There is also a listing of all 4-H Honor Club members from North Carolina and their information.

  • The NC State 4-H Council has been a strong tradition in our 4-H program. The purpose of the State 4-H Council in North Carolina is to cooperate with the state 4-H Youth Development Department in planning District 4-H Events, the State 4-H Council Conference and the North Carolina 4-H Congress. The Council will enforce the constitution and the bylaws. The Council will also advise the State 4-H Youth Development Department staff concerning a general evaluation of the 4-H program. To learn more about the State 4-H Council and to look at a copy of their constitution, please go to:

  • NC 4-H Congress has been a 4-H Tradition as well. The N.C. State 4-H Congress is an annual educational event sponsored by the 4-H Youth Development Department at N.C. State University and planned by the State 4-H Council. This council is composed of 32 young people who serve as officers from their respective districts and 4 state officers who are elected at Congress. The Congress will be attended by approximately 800 youths ranging in age from 9 to 19 and representing every county in North Carolina. Every year the Council puts together the theme for the year. Here is a look at a 2007 Congress handbook that tells what activities are going on and what to expect. Be familair with the what, when, where, why, and how of 4-H Congress..

  • The Candlelighting Ceremony coordinated by the NC 4-H Honor Club is one of the highlights of congress. Each male delegate forms the H's while the female delegates form the cloverleaves around them. NC 4-H Honor Club members form the stem of the clover. You cannot imagine how beautiful and how moved a 4-Her  must feel as they participate in the 4-H Candlelighting Ceremony if they truly listen to the Officer Installation Ceremony Script and imagine how beautiful the clover really is with all those candles lit to shape the 4-H Clover. District and State Officers are installed on the last night of 4-H Congress as a part of this ceremony. Click here to see a picture of the ceremony we took a few years ago.
